Update 2/27/06: Believe it or not, the bib will finally be updated. I spent 2 years at NYU getting my Masters and while I had time to read comics I didn't have time to update the database. I plan to dig through the various longboxes from the past couple years this week and fish out Warren material. Thanks for your patience.
The bibliography is chronological by year, and under each year-heading the books are listed in alphabetical order. Why by year instead of entirely alphabetical? I think it's more interesting to see the evolution of Warren's work over the past decade, to compare books he wrote in the same months and view a year's work as a whole instead of in pieces.
Titles in GREEN represent new additions to the bib.

Warrior #4 (aka Summer Special 1982) |
- |
- |
A young Warren writes into Warrior's letter column, Dispatches, to give his two cents on the magazine's various features, including Alan Moore's Marvelman (aka Miracleman) and V for Vendetta. Nothing but gushing praise. Several years later, though, Warren will write a review (possibly for Speakeasy?) of Moore's run on Marvelman, lambasting it as "a huge failure". Says Warren now: "I have to confess that not only was I using amphetamines during this period, but I was in a REALLY really bad mood when I wrote that." Ah, a portrait of the artist as a young man. |

Deadline #24 |
United We Fall |
Nigel Dobbyn |
Warren's first work in comics. 6 page short that's part Orwell and part "Atmospherics" (1996). You can nonetheless see the foundations of Warren's style setting. Deadline was a pretty fun little comics mag published in the UK in the late 80s/early 90s that, besides Warren, featured early work by Philip Bond, D'Israeli and Shaky Kane. |

Doctor Who Magazine #174 |
Under Reykjavic |
Paul Vyse (single illustration) |
One page prose short. I know little about Who, so I can't comment on the piece as it relates to Who continuity, etc. As Warren tells me - "It paid a month's rent." |
Marvel/June |
Speakeasy #117 |
My Friendly Blurred Days |
Edmund Perryman |
4 page short. See, it's about this crazy fella sitting on a bench, crunching drugs whilst envisioning a time-travelling future. George Bush and Madonna added to Mt Rushmore, Cleopatra rapes Marc Anthony with a gun... Warren was filled to the brimming with unrefined madness in the early days... A very difficult to track down book. |

Akira #38 |

In the back of the final 2 issues of Epic's translated release of Katsuhiro Otomo's brilliant Akira (an aside: I wrote my senior thesis in college on Otomo's manga), various creators paid tribute to Otomo and the characters in Akira with pin-ups and short stories. Warren's story revolves around Lady Miyako, one of the more prominent characters in the latter half of Akira. |

The Summer of the Year |
Darick Robertson |
6 years after Lazarus Churchyard, Warren finally gets another chance to do his own series. Warren has said that Transmet and Laz are compatible stories, and might share the same corner of some universe. The first year's worth of issues appeared as one of the flagship titles under DC's sci-fi imprint, Helix. |

One of Warren's best stories on his Hellblazer run, and yet it never saw the light of day. Penned immediately before the infamous Columbine massacre, the story deals (prophetically enough) with school shootings. Warren approved the suppression of the book for good reason, although it created tension between Warren and the editorial team that never quite dissipated. Scans of the issue are relatively easy to find on the Net these days; if you can't find them, email me and I'd be more than happy to mail you copies. |

Warren's first (and to date only) video game work. Warren wrote the scripts for the in-game cinemas and created the characters. In the manual, there are 2 story pages that are possibly written by Warren. The game is part real-time strategy (RTS) and part action, and enjoyable enough. I plan to actually play through the game regardless of its quality in order to watch the various Ellis-penned cinemas. I am ill. |
